Ballon Rouge presents A Room with a View, a solo exhibition by Helen Anna Flanagan. The works in this exhibition form a constellation centered on the idea of vacation—as both a point of entry and a means of escape—into hallucinatory, alternative worlds and landscapes. Drawing from the photographic clichés of the holiday snapshot and the tourist postcard, the exhibition reflects on processes of image-making, representation, projection, and interpretation. Through motifs of water and sun, and the use of saturated color and rich textures, the gallery space is transformed into an island—a removed, self-contained environment to be inhabited at a leisurely pace.
